FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers: Eritrea ejects Djibouti 6-1 on aggregate
Eritrea have qualified for the second round of the 2022 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers
The Eritrean team defeated Djibouti 3-0 in the second leg of the qualifiers played in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia today. The win saw Eritrea qualify on a 6-1 goal aggregate.
Misgana Mehari netted the opening goal after 47 minutes, before Diana Estifanos added a brace to give Djibouti no chance to fight back.
“We are very happy to win the two legs and qualify for the second round,” Delina Sahle who scored a brace for Eritrea in the first leg told Cecafaonline.
Eritrea will now face Tanzania in the second round. Rwanda also qualified for the second round after their opponents South Sudan withdrew. Rwanda will now face Ethiopia in the second round.
In the second round Burundi will also battle against Namibia, while Kenya face Uganda.
Three more rounds will be played, with two teams representing Africa in the 2022 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup to take place in Costa Rica.

Simba SC win, Vipers suffer home defeat in CAF Champions League
Tanzania Premier League side Simba SC have defeated hosts Nsingizini Hotspurs FC 3-0 in the first leg second preliminary round of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League.
While Simba SC picked an advantage against the Eswatini Premier League team on Sunday evening, Uganda’s Vipers SC suffered a 2-1 home defeat to visiting Power Dynamos FC.
In the earlier match played at the Somhlolo National Stadium, Wilson Nangu gave Simba SC the lead at the stroke of half time.
After recess Denis Kibu netted a brace to ensure Simba SC carry the advantage ahead of the return leg to be played in Tanzania.
At the St. Marys Stadium in Kitende, hosts Vipers SC took an early second half lead with a Yunus Ssentamu goal.
But the visiting Zambian side quickly leveled matters through Kenyan forward Moses Shuma. Vipers SC defender Derrick Ndahiro later netted an own goal to give his team the advantage going into the return leg.
CAF Confederation Cup
Nairobi United shock Tunisian side in CAF Confederation Cup
Nairobi United FC scored in each half to shock experienced Etoile Sportive du Sahel 2-0 in the first leg second preliminary round of the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.
Ovella Ochieng gave the hosts the lead after 37 minutes in the closed match played at the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Nairobi.
Ochieng made no mistake capitalizing on a well taken pass by Enoch Machaka.
Earlier Moussa Senghor had a good chance for Etoile Sportive du Sahel, but his effort missed the target.
In the second half, the visiting Tunisian Premier League side tried to push forward, but the Nairobi United defenders stood firm.
Duncan Omalla doubled Nairobi United’s lead after 57th minutes. Five minutes later Ochieng could have made it 3-0, but his shot hit the woodwork.
Nairobi United handled by former Kenyan international Nicholas Muyoti will now look to the second leg to be played at Stade Olympique de Sousse on October 26th.
In match involving two teams from the CECAFA Zone, hosts Flambeau du centre (Burundi) battled from a goal down to score and draw 1-1 against Tanzania’s Singida Black Stars FC.
Zambian International Clatous Chama had given Singida Black Stars FC in the second half, but the Burundian side were quick to level matters.
CAF Confederation Cup
Azam FC move close to CAF Confederation Cup group stage
Tanzania Premier League side have defeated KMKM SC 2-0 in the first leg of the second preliminary round of the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.
Jesphte Kitambala gave Azam FC the lead after only 6 minutes at the New Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar.
The Zanzibar Premier League side tried to fight back strongly, but Azam FC struck again with a well taken free kick by Pascal Msindo after 42 minutes. The win moves Coach Florent Ibenge’s side close to securing a place in the group stage.
In another match involving a team from the CECAFA Zone, Somalia’s Dekedaha FC suffered a 6-0 defeat to Zamalek in a match played at the Cairo International Stadium.
Juan Bezerra netted a brace, while Ahmed Sherif, Amr Nasser, Seifeddine Jaziri and Seif Gaafar also got their names on the score sheet
On Sunday Nairobi United FC will host Etoile du Sahel (Tunisia), while CECAFA Kagame Cup champions Singida Black Stars FC (Tanzania) play away Flambeau du Centre in Bujumbura, Burundi.

Young Africans SC, Aigle Noir fall in CAF Champions League matches
CECAFA team Young Africans SC and Aigle Noir FC suffered identical 1-0 defeats in the first leg second preliminary round ties of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League played on Saturday.
Tanzania’s Young Africans SC lost to Malawi’s Silver Strikers FC in a match played at the Bingu National Stadium. Substitute Austin Yosefe netted the lone goal after 76 minutes.
The defeat led to head Coach Romain Folz having his contract terminated. “The Management of Young Africans Sports Club would like to inform the public that it has terminated the contract of the Head Coach of the first team, Romain Folz,” the statement read.
In another match Burundi Premier League reigning champions Aigle Noir played their hearts out putting up a good show, but lost 1-0 to African giants Al Ahly in a match played at the refurbished Intwari Stadium in Bujumbura.
Aigle Noir defender Iragi Kanyamukenge netted an own goal to give the visitors advantage. Al Ahly continued to press, but failed to find more goals.
Action continues on Sunday with Uganda’s Vipers SC hosting Power Dynamos FC at their St. Marys Stadium, Kitende, while Simba SC (Tanzania) play away to Nsingizini Hotspurs FC at the Somhlolo National Stadium, Lobamba.
